TAS: Three members of same family die in car crash

HOBART, April 4 AAP - Police have confirmed that three people who died in a horror
road accident in northern Tasmania were from the same family.

The accident happened on Stoney Rise Road in Devonport about 8pm (AEST) last night.

Two vehicles, a 2004 Holden Commodore sedan and a 1997 Chrysler Voyager van, collided
at the corner of Stoney Rise and Tugrah roads, a police spokesman said.

Police believe the Holden driver lost control shortly before the crash.

Three people travelling in the Holden, all believed to be from the Devonport area,
were killed instantly.

They included the male driver, 39, a woman, 41, who was in the front passenger seat,
and another man in the rear passenger seat.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 33-year-old Devonport woman, was taken to the North West
Regional Hospital Mersey campus with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed and traffic was diverted for three hours as police searched the
accident scene.

Police have not released the names of the victims and have asked for witnesses who
saw either car before the crash or who witnessed the crash itself to come forward.
