NSW: Toongabbie house fire may have been deliberately lit

SYDNEY, April 30 AAP - A house fire which caused $20,000 damage in Sydney's west last night
may have been deliberately lit, police said today.

The owner of the rented house on Toongabbie Road, Toongabbie, was visiting next door
neighbours when they were alerted by the sound of breaking glass about 9.30pm, a police
spokeswoman said.

The group tried to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose before calling the Fire Brigade
to the house, which was unoccupied at the time, the spokeswoman said.

Fire investigators and scientific police found a side door had been forced open and signs
of accelerant were found in the lounge room, she said.

"At this stage, the fire which caused an estimated $20,000 damage, is being treated as
suspicious," she said.
